I knew I wanted to write more than anything, but never managed to justify to myself or others the time I needed...
Karen Pegg COURSE CO-ORDINATOR
After a BA in English at Aberystwyth University, Karen moved to Paris where she taught English as a Foreign Language for fifteen years, setting up a language school for business professionals.
Ten years ago she moved down to Gascony with her family and a menagerie of animals. After spending the first few years renovating dilapidated farm houses, she decided to concentrate on her writing, taking an MA in Creative Writing at Lancaster University.
The focus of Karen's Masters was the novel, the result of which is a first novel and the start of a second.
As well as this, Karen has written poetry, a play and several short stories. She is interested in all forms of writing: poetry, script writing for television, writing for radio and theatre, literary fiction and young adult fiction.
'I knew I wanted to write more than anything, but never managed to justify to myself or others the time I needed to take out of a busy life to concentrate on my work in a serious and professional manner.'
Going back to University as a mature student, and attending literary retreats first as a student and then as a course organiser, has taught me the value that such a 'chapter' out of one's life can bring. It is the first vital step in taking yourself seriously as a writer, and arguably the most important step.
